Rundale Palace is one of the two major baroque palaces built for the Dukes of Courland in Latvia. It is situated in Pilsrundale, 12 kilometres away from Bauska city. In 1735 Duke of Courland Ernst Johann von Biron bought land in Rundāle with an old medieval castle in the territory of a planned summer residence. The old castle was demolished without any doubts, and now we have a solemn palace! It was used for the accommodation of notable guests, such as the leaders of foreign nations, but in 1963, Rundale Palace and the surrounding gardens became a branch of the Bauska local history museum. The Rundale Palace now is one of the major tourist destinations in Latvia. Museum opens doors to 46 thoroughly decorated rooms, two halls, and the Great Gallery. The palace hosts the Early Music Festival and recitals of classical music. Our advice for you – do not forget to leave time for visiting French style gardens! It is impossible to decide what looks better – palace or gardens because they both are incredibly amazing. Some say that all this complex is like a smaller version of Versaille Palace. Want to see or maybe to compare? Come to visit Latvia and feel the royalty atmosphere! Book a tour from Baltic Tours and experience it at least once! Extraordinary Rundale Palace is waiting for you!
