The Fagernes with the population of 1801 inhabitants located in the municipality of Nord-Aurdal is a regional centre in Valdres province with cafes, restaurants, shops, shopping center and folk museum. It is, therefore, possible to combine the good Valdres experiences with a little more urban pleasure for those who choose to live in the area in and around Fagernes. There are also good opportunities for hiking, fishing and swimming. Not only is this the area in Valdres with the highest population density, but along with nearby areas like Leira, also a trading centre in the region.

The north-western end of the lake crosses the bridge of Ulns. It has an area of 13.24 km ² and is 46.01 km. It is located at an altitude of 355 m above sea level. It is unique and one of the most beautiful places in Norway.

This name was given to this mountainous, untouched land by the Norwegian poet O.O. Vinje. Archaeologists argue that the mountain range was inhabited in 3000 BC. The highest peaks are Gallheppigen (2469 meters) and Glitterthund (2464 meters). In the area, there are many waterfalls, picturesque lakes and rivers, glaciers and valleys, drowning in a herbage. Local lakes and rivers abound in trout. According to the widely recognized opinion, these places are the most picturesque in Europe. The first hut in this area was created by the Norwegian Tourist Society in 1869. In 1980, the mountainous massif became a national park.
