Voss tours

A settlement, founded in the Viking Age, but officially received the status of a commune only a few decades ago, is located in the province of Hordaland with the administrative centre of Vossevagen. Here live about 14 thousand people, most of whom are indigenous Norwegians. Thanks to the warm winter and mild climate, the flow of tourists does not run out either in summer or in winter, which is why the main occupation of residents is the tourist support of visitors and partly agriculture.

Due to the fact that the town occupies a small area, it is mainly walked on foot or by bicycle. If you want, you can rent a car or call a taxi. To get from neighbouring Bergen, you need to take a regular bus that goes along the E16 just 1 h. 40 min., Or take the Bergen-Voss train to the terminal station. The journey takes a little more than two hours.

Like any other city in Norway, Voss has its own unique  and beautiful places , but their number is not so big. Although the main vector is the sporting direction of tourism in the surroundings of untouched nature, admirers of historical places will not be bored here as well.

Visit the Church of the Ascension. This is an amazing place with unique building with an octagonal wooden roof – one of the oldest in Scandinavia. The years left a mark on it, but thanks to the care and attention of the clergy, this temple, located in the heart of Voss, still attracts the attention of the guests of the city.

Walking, skydiving, sailing along fjords. For those who travel to Norway for the sake of admiring the beauty of the Norwegian bays, Voss is a kind of Mecca, because the town is conveniently located directly near the Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord.

In the Hordaland, there is almost 40 km of equipped of varying degrees of complexity trails for winter sports, although professionals define them as “light”. In the warm season in Voss, you can go horseback riding in the neighbourhood or fishing. Fans of a mountain bike will appreciate the steep descents and hikes, and in winter the guests of the city can enjoy and ice fishing.

After an active day, you can spend the rest of the evening in the sauna, and in the city they are available, it is one of the best things to do and is a must while visiting in Scandinavia. After the steam room, you can go to the nearest pub – get local news, practice your language and try local drinks, but you should be ready to pay a round sum for this – alcohol is not cheap in Voss, like anywhere in Norway.

As it was mentioned before there are not many attractions in Voss if your passion is not sport. Among Voss cool historical places it is worth to mention the city church  Vangskyrkja with marvelous murals on the ceiling dates back to 1277. Among other amazing  unusual places  of the city, the peak of Khanguren 660 m high, which can be reached from the city center by cable car. From the top are amazing views. Also it is worth to mention and to visit Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord, two of the most amazing, attractive fjords of Norway and a one of the must do things while travelling to Norway.

If there is no restaurant in your hotel or you decide to try something unusual, you may want to visit some local places where you could eat different local cuisine dishes

On of the best places to eat while visiting Voss is a Restaurant Store Ringheim is a restaurant at the hotel where you can order an early breakfast, a healthy lunch or a romantic dinner.

Elvatun Restaurant. This restaurant, located in close proximity to the ski slopes, offers a traditional European menu, barbecue. Before dinner, you can visit the sauna and plunge into an ice-water hole.

Vossevangen Bodega is a piece of Mexico in the snow-covered Scandinavia,where you can eat some spicy Mexican food.  In this nice restaurant you can order vegetarian dishes.

The advices and recommendations are very common. If you going to Voss in winter, have a warm clothes with you , summer demands having comfortable hiking shoes, as Voss is for walkers mostly and rarely for drivers. And lost but not least , food is not cheap as well as drinks, so if you are on a budget trip, keep it in mind.
