A Long History of a Small Town
Valmiera is a city that had to go through a lot of struggle to become what it is now. People have inhabited Valmiera for over five thousand years! In the 13th century, it was conquered by different orders more than once. The success of local life depended on traders – the town was part of the Hanseatic League. Since the early years, Valmiera suffered from fires and had to be rebuilt more than eleven times.
