Spring: Blooming Season in Lithuania
Spring in Lithuania is a magnificent time to appreciate the beauty of the country. Apple and cherry trees burst into full blossom, painting homesteads, forests, botanical gardens, and even city walls in bright white and pink colors. Join us in discovering and appreciating this natural phenomenon in Lithuania!
Apple Tree Bloom
Lithuania boasts hundreds of apple tree breeds covering approximately 76 percent of its land. Every spring, millions of buds explode with pink or white flowers, creating white petal carpets in homesteads, abandoned settlements, and gardens. This period is often considered the most beautiful time of the year. Why travel? Blooming apple orchards symbolize success, prosperity, and material well-being in Lithuanian culture. The sight of a blooming apple orchard soothes and freshens the mood, providing an opportunity to learn about Lithuanian traditions and culture. When to travel? The middle of May is the peak bloom for apple trees in Lithuania.
Cherry Blossom and Sakura Park
Cherry trees, cultivated since ancient times, offer one of the most anticipated gifts of spring in Lithuania, symbolizing the fleeting nature of life. Lithuania is home to various cherry trees, including the oldest sour cherries ('Prunus cerasus') and the newest addition, Sakura, also known as Japanese cherry. Why travel? Lithuania offers 17 or more places across the country to admire cherry blossoms and experience local culture and architecture. Popular locations include Vingis Department of Vilnius University Botanical Garden, MRU University, and Č. Sugihara Sakura Park at the White Bridge, featuring over 200 Japanese cherry trees planted in honor of a diplomat who helped 6000 Jews escape Europe during the Holocaust. Kaunas is also a popular destination boasting cherry blossoms, with several locations on Nemunas Island. Cherry blossoms are brief, lasting only a week, and sometimes up to three weeks in April if weather conditions are favorable. To get a better look at Lithuanian bloom, there's only one way – to visit yourself. Check out our featured tours and don’t miss the viewing opportunity next year!
