Three Brothers
Tours in Three Brothers
Ever thought fairytales were only in books? Think again. In Riga's Old Town, three historic houses closely built together have been known as the Three Brothers for centuries. Legend has it that they were constructed by three men from the same family. The oldest brother, on the right, was built around 1490, showcasing Dutch Renaissance architecture. It features a single large room where work, trade, and daily life unfolded, retaining its original appearance.
The middle brother, the wealthiest of the trio, was constructed in 1646, representing a typical yet modern dwelling of the 17th century. Unlike the oldest building, it boasts a spacious room with large windows above the ground-floor hall, along with special residential premises in the yard side. The youngest on the left, built in the late 17th century, is the narrowest and smallest. It sports a fascinating facade element—a mask believed to protect inhabitants from evil spirits.
Do these houses reflect the characters of three brothers? We leave that to you to decide. But first, embark on a tour with us and explore Riga, the capital of Latvia. Immerse yourself in the charm of this city and uncover the stories of this intriguing trio!
