St. Peter's Church

Tours in St. Peter's Church

St. Peter's Church is a Lutheran church in Riga, the capital of Latvia, dedicated to Saint Peter. It serves as a parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. Originally a Catholic church, it converted to Lutheranism in 1523. The church, constructed of masonry, remained undamaged during the city fire in Riga in 1209, which is why it was first mentioned in ancient chronicles.

The church's history can be divided into three distinct periods: two associated with Gothic and Romanesque building styles, and the third with the early Baroque period. Throughout the centuries, the church has always featured one distinctive element. Can you guess what it is? Despite being damaged several times by fire or weak construction, it has always been meticulously restored. Initially constructed from wood, later adorned with glass, the church was finally rebuilt in 1973, with the glass ritual repeated – this time with smashing results. The church boasts a magnificent tower resembling a spire, complete with an observation platform. Book a tour with us and take a lift for spectacular views of the city of Riga. Prepare to be impressed!
