Samogitia is an ethnic region in the north-western Lithuania, with its capital town Telsiai. Samogitia National Park was established in 1991 having a goal to preserve the natural and cultural heritage, to guarantee proper use and regeneration of natural resources, to create conditions to cognitive tourism, scientific researches and observation of the state of surroundings. It’s more than 21 hectares territory where the Baltic Sea is, where the fun celebrations are, where food is plentiful, where are plains, surrounded by small hills and lush forests, where people offer good treats and talk nicely in an incredibly beautiful dialect. You will find everything that describes the Lithuanian’s culture and the old values the best. From unique forests to the biggest and the most beautiful lake in Samogitia – Plateliai. From oldest wooden church to the traditional wood carved crosses and statues. Would be a shame not to mention old villages and its people because Samogitia is important to Lithuania for its history and culture. It was the Samogitian dialect in which the first Lithuanian people talked, the first Lithuanian grammar textbook was written. In all historical periods, Samogitian lifestyle was markedly different from those of other ethnographic areas of Lithuanian population culture. To this day, Samogitians have preserved the strongest ethnic identity in Lithuania. They speak particular Samogitian dialect, which locals tend to consider a separate language. Want to hear it?
