Old Town Market Square

Tours in Old Town Market Square

Originating in the late 13th century, the Old Town Market Square in Warsaw remains, to this day, the heart of the city. It is also the oldest part of Warsaw's old town, the capital of Poland. After being destroyed during World War II, the Old Town Market Square was restored and now looks better than ever. It is surrounded by Renaissance-era style buildings, each of which holds significant meaning in the history of Poland. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes to visit, with many of them offering outside seating on warm days.

In the middle of the square stands the Mermaid Statue, which is a symbol of Warsaw. The statue was made in bronze by Konstanty Hegel in 1855 and is a two-tailed mermaid, with a tail on each “leg”. The statue is a zinc cast from the original and is one of the most frequent motifs to feature in postcards and souvenirs from the Old Town. Enhance your experience of this historic city by booking a tour with us and exploring Warsaw's rich heritage with expert guidance.
