In the heart of Klaipėda’s Old Town lies the popular Theatre Square, a cultural hub that hosts concerts, the Sea Festival, the International Jazz Festival, and other events, playing a significant role in the city’s cultural life since the 18th century. The Theatre, reconstructed in the 19th century in a neo-classic style, proudly displays the Klaipėda coat of arms on its facade. A focal point of the square is the Tarawa Anike sculpture, also known as Ann or Annchen von Tharau, which depicts a youthful barefoot girl. Dedicated to Simon Dach, a German poet born in Klaipeda, the sculpture commemorates his unrequited love story with Ann, immortalized in the popular poem “Ann from Tharau”.
