Riga Castle

Tours in Riga Castle

Riga Castle, located on the banks of the River Daugava in Latvia's capital, Riga, stands as one of the country's largest medieval castles with a rich history dating back to the early 14th century. Throughout its existence, the castle has been destroyed and reconstructed several times, evolving with old and new artistic and architectural features over time. Originally a three-floor building with a rectangular courtyard and four towers, only two towers remain today, rebuilt in a round shape.

In 1938, the Latvian government declared the castle its residence, and despite political transitions, it currently serves as the official residence of the President of Latvia and hosts several museums. Notable artworks from the 1920s and 1930s, including the painted ceiling of the Hall of Ambassadors and the castle gate, add to the castle's historical significance. Additionally, underground passageways leading in various directions have been discovered beneath the castle, offering a unique perspective.

Riga Castle is recognized as a national architectural monument, making it a must-visit destination in Latvia. Explore the marvels of Riga by booking a tour with us!
