Tours in Turaida Castle
Turaida Castle is a recently reconstructed medieval castle in Turaida, standing majestically on the opposite bank of the Gauja River from Sigulda. Built in 1214 by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, its most impressive element is the northern forecastle's gate tower. The main tower, thinner and higher, is situated in the middle of the castle. The previous wooden tower was known as the "Land of Peace," but the current one is locally recognized by the Livonian name of Turaida. Constructed with red brick, typical of Baltic crusading orders, the castle has undergone several reconstructions, with only a few parts remaining: the main tower, semi-rounded tower, and the western section.
Despite its partial preservation, Turaida Castle is one of the most visited places in the region. Inside, there is an exhibition detailing the history of the brick castle and the Gauja Livs. Don't miss the opportunity to climb upstairs to the main tower! From the viewing platform, you can behold the unique landscape of the picturesque Gauja Valley and the territory of Turaida Museum Reserve. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Latvian nature and feel the majesty of Turaida Castle. Book a tour with us and step into history.
