Nida is home to some of the highest sand dunes in Europe. The most famous of them is probably the 52 m high Parnidis dune (Parndzio kopa). From the top of the dune, an amazing horizon opens. Turn around and you will see the Baltic Sea, Curonian lagoon and the Russian enclave Kaliningrad. On the observation platform, there is a 13,8 meters height sun’s clock made from the stone. On the ground everywhere around are small steps with curved hours and half-an-hours. Every summer this place attracts more and more people, not only foreigners but also locals. Due to the increasing number of tourists and drifting sand, dunes are threatened to disappear. In the last 30 years, the Parnidis dune lost about 10 m in height so when you go there, be responsible and take care of our pride. Explore the dunes carefully taking the 1,8km long road around it. History says that this dune was moving and in the years of 1675–1854 it covered up four villages called Nagliai. Sounds scary but interesting? Are you ready to travel to Lithuania and see this beauty by yourself? Time to book a tour from Baltic Tours!
